Causes

  1. Windows update service may be disabled or not running.

Workaround 1

Go to services.msc  check whether windows update service, if it is disabled, enable the service and restart it.

Workaround 2

1.) Open COMMAND PROMPT and choose run as administrator (in case of windows VISTA and above ) A command prompt window will open).

2.) Type in command “net stop WuAuServ” (stops windows update service)

3.) Head over to Run ( Win+R ) and type in “%windir%” (this command line enable you to head over to your Microsoft windows system folder)

4.) Find the folder “Software Distribution” and rename.

5.) Then, go back command prompt and run the command line”net start WuAuServ” (starts the windows update service)

6.) At this point, try to install. NET Framework again.

    We follow the above steps to successful installation (.net Framework 4.5.2). But, still showing that installation did not success.

      You can try this below work around

      1. Type gpedit.msc in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It’ll open Group Policy Editor.

      2. Now go to:
      Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
      3. In right-side pane, look for “Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair” option.
      4. The option would be set to Not Configured. Double-click on it, set it to Enabled and enable “Contact Windows Update directly to download repair content instead of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)” option.

      You must Update Group policy either by restarting the system or
      Open Command Prompt as run as admin and type gpupdate/force
